Slowly catching up. I was home sick a few times last week and it’s throwing me off. Boo allergies.

Coldwater Creek shirtdress, Avengers charm bracelet, Clark’s shoes

I love this dress. I love it so much, I also own it in black. And I so rarely wear either. Why? I love full skirts that end at my knee, and it’s not my default. I really wish it was.

Gap sweater, Limited cardigan, Old Navy sweetheart skinnies, Hawkeye bracelet, Felicity Smoak replica necklace, Converse

A Saturday at work with two action-y storytimes means comfortable clothes! And a color scheme, apparently. This was mostly because of the necklace – I got it in FanMail, a monthly geeky lady subscription box, and wanted to wear it asap. So it turned very purple. Close up on the necklace:

A little brassy, but I like it.

On my Friday off, I went to see The Martian. I loved it so much! Like, more than I thought I would, even. It was funny and nerve-wracking and heartbreaking and sweet, all in turns. I can’t wait to read the book – based on the somewhat surprise ending of the credits, at least one subplot got pretty well nixed, and I’m really curious to see what else went. I like Sebastian Stan, who had a fairly small role in this, so that was a bonus, too.

Sunday, I did my third 5K of the year, for the WDW Running Team’s Tomorrowland Virtual Race. My time wasn’t great, went up 2 minutes, but the length didn’t feel overwhelming for the first time, so there’s that. It’s been a bad week or so to run with allergies and cold impacting asthma, so I’m pretty okay with the turn out. The weather was at least gorgeous, 78 and sunny, so it was just allergy issues.

Only one more 5K for 2015, for Veterans Day. Depending on weather, that might just be totally walked, we’ll see.

(PS, clearly NOT my usual pace, I try to pick it up for the last .1 mile, ha.)

24-28 August 2015: New Shoes!

For an extra week of summer, it was certainly chilly. Funny how that works out, eh?

Limited striped tee, Old Navy Flirt skirt, Gap boyfriend cardigan, BombDotCom arrow necklace and bracelet, Dansko sandals

Love this top so much. There are other colorways, but this one is just the best.

Gap top, anthropologie skirt, Disney necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Clarks shoes

I haven’t worn this skirt all summer, I don’t think, but I do love it. And these shoes go with it perfectly. Scrounged the outfit last minute when I remembered I was hosting a training and should look professional, ha.

Studio sweater, Sag Harbor skirt, BombDotCom arrow necklace, Agent Carter necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Clarks shoes

I had to go into my sweater closet to get dressed, it was so awesome. And I am madly in love with how this outfit turned out, so fun and retro. I think this sweater will also look great with my red pencil skirt if I ever get brave enough to wear it again.

anthropologie top, Old Navy Flirt capris, Gap boyfriend cardigan, Biviel t-strap heels

Casual but I love wearing heels again. Switched to Keds to walk to the consignment shop on my dinner break, but didn’t find anything…and ended up in Keds the rest of the night, ha. Not my most comfortable pair of shoes, however cute.

Charlotte Russe bow-back top, Old Navy Flirt capris, Gap boyfriend cardigan, Mickey necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, PURPLE CONVERSE

New shoes! New shoes! I love these so much! They are Hollyhock colored, which apparently is not a current color, so I got them off eBay. (Though I was originally sent the wrong size, exchanged them, and eBay returned my money. But I still got my proper size! Need to figure out how to repay them.) Purple and grey is my basic winter wardrobe, and purple is such a neutral for me, and I’m excited to wear them with cute dresses and jeans alike. Also, you know, Hawkeye. ❤

I used this opportunity to say goodbye to my previous pairs of Chucks, all deeply loved, but unwearable. Bye, Chucks. You served me well. I hope I can replace you some day.

This was actually a great mail week. I got the shoes, I got a nerdy subscription box that I will talk about soon, and I got my very first 5k medal, whoo!!!

❤ ❤ ❤ I’m still plugging away at the Rogers Running Club – I’m on W8D2 of couch to 5k and it’s going well. Last week, I actually managed 23 straight minutes of jogging, which blew my mind, and while I haven’t been able to replicate it this week, I did shave 2 minutes off my mile. Exciting. This is my race week for the Cinderella Run Like It’s Midnight challenge, and I’m hoping to complete it on Friday. After that, dunno. There’s a Veterans one in November I’d like to do, though I’m worried it might be too cold for my lungs. I could walk it, though. I could also just do a 5K and buy myself a medal. Options.

Late July 2015: Another Catch Up

I’ve sort of lost track of what I wore when. I think this is actually just this weekend?

Her Universe Doctor Who dress, ANA cardigan, arrow necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Clarks flats

It’s been hot, which is annoying because I liked my cool summer. But this is a nice dress to wear when it’s hot. I was more than a little punchy this day – I think it was Friday. I was still sort of sleep deprived and weak and had way less of a filter than I normally do, ha. But I made it almost the full day at work!

My friend Liss and I celebrated 20 years of friendship on Saturday, with a trip to the first restaurant we ever spent over $50 in and an afternoon at the mall just like how we spent our high school years! I love the 40s style of this place:

And of course, we hit anthropologie. I tried on a bunch, but the floaty dresses are still a thing and my need to show a waist lest I look like I gained 30 pounds is still a thing. But I did find this fab Sparrow Scalloped Stripes cardigan:

Definite score, and less than $70 with their 20% off sale. I like how it both buttons and defines my waist, which defeats most cardis. I also love the retro-ness of it.

I apologize for my hair.

Also, omg, Michael Kors, NO.

Elastic hemmed jeans?!?!? NO NO NO.

I wanted to see Antman after shopping, but was too tired, so I crashed. Sunday morning, I got myself up and out the door and completed W6D1 of couch to 5k and then kept going to finish my first 5k!!!

It’s a virtual race, where you run on your own time and get a medal mailed to you and I had to do it because it’s the Run You Clever Nerd race, and I love Doctor Who. You get a week to do it – walk, run, jog, break it up into days, whatever. I was sick most of the week, so Sunday was my only chance. And it about did me in. I walked way more than planned, both because my app went weird and because even with my inhaler, I had a hard time breathing, but I did it! And then literally collapsed on the couch and didn’t have the energy to do anything, even read my stack of comic books, woe. Still no Antman. 😦

My next virtual race is Run Like It’s Midnight, with a sparkly Cinderella themed medal, at the end of August. Which is great, because it’ll give me time to finish the final weeks of c25k. My goal is to do it in 45-47 minutes, so we’ll see how it goes. I don’t think I’ll be able to jog much in this heat, so I’m hoping we get some cooler weather again so I can keep going soon!

3, 5, 6, 7 July 2015: Fandom Fun

It was oddly soul crushing to work Friday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday this week, while everyone on social media proclaimed the joy of a three day weekend. Normally I’d have had Monday off for Sunday, but since much of my department took a four day weekend, I took today off instead. I thought it’d be no problem, but boy did it suck. People figured we were closed Friday and Sunday, so it was so incredibly slow and I loathe slow Sundays. I read comics, bitterly.

But I looked cute, at least.

Target Captain America tee, JCrew button skirt, Optimysticals Avengers charm bracelet, Aerosoles sandals

I mean, if you’re at work the day before July 4th, you wear Captain America. You just do.

Junk Food Captain America tee, River Canyon skorts, Arrow necklace, Optimysticals Avengers charm bracelet, Keds

And when you’re there the day after, it just makes sense to go Captain America again. Why not, right?

I always forget I own this skort, I think I pull it out once a year. But it was exactly what I needed, so, score.

Coldwater Creek shirtdress, Arrow necklace, Agent Carter necklace, Captain America bracelet, Clark’s shoes

This is my most favorite dress. I figured since it was 90 out for the second or third time this summer, it was a good day for it – actually it was overly sticky. The lunchtime walk to Trader Joe’s for groceries didn’t help. But I adore this dress and would happily wear versions of it 75% of my summer, I love the drape of it. For accessories, I threw in all three Marvel characters I love who are from the 40s, since it’s vintage style – Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter, Natasha Romanoff. (In the comics, anyway.) I just had the arrow and bracelet, but I woke up in a down mood so I needed the Peggy Carter value reminder. It worked.

Also, what is this style of shoe called? Need to figure that out. 20150708-110628.jpg

Disney World castle tee, Old Navy Flirt capris, Gap boyfriend cardi, arrow bracelets, White Cliff flats

And then suddenly, it was barely 65 out. This summer is weird. It was so chilly at lunch that I turned around because I needed a jacket I didn’t have. I finally figured out how to give my hair a bit of poof at the top, which I’m super excited about. I spent the day listening to Disney World park music,  which always lifts my mood. God bless internet radio. 20150708-110559.jpg

Redbubble On Your Left tank, Nike running shorts, New Balance gym shoes

SHORTS. SHORTS THAT FIT ME. AND LOOK GOOD. I have never experienced such a thing before!! This is exciting. I just started week 5 – week 4 was hit and miss, but I thought W5 would be easier than redoing W4. W4D1 went fantastically, and D2 and 3 went so so badly, from triggering my asthma to having to walk a bit during jog portions. It was super frustrating. But W5D1 went splendidly – 3 sets of 5 minute jogs were a manageable challenge, my breathing was great, and I cut over a minute off my mile. I think maybe going out in the evenings might be better than mornings – I did remember that I could never go PE in the mornings with my asthma, so maybe I just need to let my lungs warm up more. We’ll see how D2 goes.

Also, this lipgloss comes courtesy my friend Krissy – it’s Perfectly Posh Lip Dye in Dark Darling and holy crap, I love it. It’s super 90s, I think, in a good way. But because it’s a gloss, it fades quickly. Besame has a travel lip brush that would be handy, but I am rubbish at reapplying during the day. I wonder if I can find a dupe to use with it to extend it’s wear?

I used to have a wax tart melter from Yankee Candle, and I loved that thing hardcore. I like scenting my space. But it died years ago and I never replaced it. And then  a few weeks ago, I was like, WHY? Why wouldn’t I? I loved it, it was easy, and it gave me pretty scents I can’t get from candles because I don’t do flames. So I bought one, on clearance and it’s super pretty:

I love dragonflies. So when I was buying it, I recalled the absolutely amazing mythology of the Mountain Lodge scent, as detailed on Tumblr. It is hilarious, and validated by Yankee Candle itself, and since I tend to really love piney, outdoory scents, I had to go for it.
And yep. Friends, it is marvelous. I suspect there’s a stronger scent in candle form, but alas, that avenue is not open to me. I need more.

New displays at work:

High five to my friend who added Pizza Dog from Hawkeye, and thumbs up to Elsa, but I love that someone added Robin, with a rationale. ❤

And this is absolutely incredible, I should get a shot of the whole thing. It goes from 1 foot (Hobbits) to 9 feet (Hulk):

I question my coworkers measuring, though – this was me in 2-3 inch heels, and last I checked, I was 5’4″!

9, 10, 11 June 2015: Become a Hero

Busy busy week! Weird week, too, where I’m only working three days and coming in late in all of them, because of extra weekend work. I need a nice, regular weekend off to recalibrate me – and I’m not getting one any time soon. LOL Ah, well. Three weeks until my friend comes in to visit and I get 3.5 days off.

Redbubble Heroine tee, Old Navy Flirt capris, Keds

I love this shirt so much. So so so much. It brings me great joy to wear it. And only one kid noticed it, boo. 😦 Oh, well. I’ll wear it again soon and see if anyone else sees it.

A woman came in the day after I wore this, noticed our Ms Marvel poster and said she was friends with the author. !!!!! I may have gone fangirl giddy. I wish she’d come in Tuesday so I could show her I was wearing Kamala on my shirt!

Also, red Keds! They just seem so damn bright/focus pulling. I mean, I bought them to replace worn out red Converse, I have red sandals and red wedges, so it’s not like I’m unused to red shoes. And yet, I am biased against them for some reason. I can’t figure it out.

Modcloth dress, Agent Carter necklace, Optimysticals Avengers charm bracelet, Aerosole wedges

It was 90! Which felt very hot. It was our first 90 since last July, so it felt worse than it may have otherwise. I did my jog in the morning when it was—not cool, but not overly warm? It was on an edge, and it was a challenge, but doable. But I would not have been able to do it after work with these temps and humidity!! So, nice cool summer dress, wheeee. I walked half a mile down and back to Trader Joe’s and it was maybe not my finest decision. But I showed off the cute dress, so.

Abercrombie and Fitch sweater, Old Navy Flirt capris, Captain America and Agent Carter necklaces, Optimysticals Avengers charm bracelet, Kenneth Cole Reaction heels

I was aiming kind of retro sweater girly, and I had an extra hour before work, so I tried to curl my hair  (I love Lisa Fremont’s videos) and, um, it did not go well. I realized later I had curl defining mousse I maybe should have put on my hair as I rolled it in the hot rollers. It did at least get some volume, and a coworker called it “epic,” so I guess it could have gone worse.

Also, the sheepies on my jogging path got decorated, omg:

I haven’t really mentioned anything here since February, but if you’ve seen my sidebar, you’ll see I’ve definitely been plugging along in my 2015 Reading Challenges.  I’ve finished 9/11-13 in my Nonfiction Challenge, 5/12 in my To Be Read Challenge and 7/12 in my Eclectic Reader Challenge. So about midway, midway through the year, bang on target. It’s proving shockingly hard to find a book set in a country starting with S or a contemporary romance – I mean, oh my God, I read a million billion romances and half of them are usually set in Scotland!!! And yet, I’ve struggled this year. So weird. I have leads on where to read more on my TBR list, but less motivation now that I’m so into graphic novels; it’ll be interesting if I can manage to use this year to tell myself that I don’t need to read them after all, it’s okay to let them go and move on. The Nonfiction books aren’t set in stone the way TBR is, and I’ve read other nonfiction titles, so I may revise that list to reflect what I’ve read, we’ll see.

All in all, I think it’s been going well and it’s definitely fun. Never would have guessed when I started that I’d be so focused on a brand new genre, though! It’s definitely pulled time away from these lists, but that’s cool, too. I’m glad I have my new area.

4, 5, 7 June 2015: Start of Summer

It’s here! Our summer reading adventure has begun. I very smartly scheduled a massage for me for today, knowing that predicted crowds for yesterday would have me stressed and exhausted. And I was so right.

Junk Food Captain America tee, Old Navy Flirt capris, Optimysticals Avengers charm bracelet, Keds

Slow launch, so a pretty quiet day. But still had to celebrate with a beloved superhero.

Woot Princess tee, BP cardigan, Old Navy Flirt skirt, Forever 21 leggings, Optimysticals Avengers charm bracelet, White Cliff flats

I know I’ll default to capris all summer if I don’t catch myself, so I caught myself. Love this tee, which is so cheery and awesome – We’ll Save Ourselves, Thank You! ❤

WeLoveFine Hawkeye shirt, Old Navy Flirt capris, Optimysticals Avengers charm bracelet, Keds

I delighted a young lass named Violet with my hair, glasses, shirt, watch and nails, ha! Her mom was sure she’d be hearing about me for the rest of the day. It was a super crazy insanely busy day at work, hordes of families gathered several people deep around our desk on 2-3 sides, nonstop. By the end of the day (7 hours total, though the first 2 were slow), I was at the point where my face hurt from talking and if I didn’t say another word until I got back to work tomorrow, I’d have been happy!

Which is why I was primed for today’s massage, for sure.

Also, nails:

Incredible Hulk colors, comics stickers from my assistant director. Fun, right? OPI Lost My Bikini in Molokini and Wet and Wild Sage in the City. I figure I can do other superhero colors this summer – red/gold is probably next.

I’m still going with Couch to 5K – I’m in week two, a little longer, and ran across this bizarre little tableau in a front yard:

I don’t even.

1, 2, 3 June 2015: The Countdown Ends

Our summer reading adventure starts tomorrow at work! I actually did such a good job with time management that I finished absolutely everything this afternoon around 2:30 and then got cranky and stressed because I needed to be Doing Things and there was nothing to do but wait, ha. I did some ordering, made some phone calls, and that helped.

Abercrombie and Fitch top, Old Navy sweetheart skinnies, JCrew Factory scarf, Keds

So boring. So cold. At least I experimented with the scarf?

Elie Tahari striped top, Old Navy Flirt skirt, Forever 21 leggings, Nerdtastic Agent Carter necklace, Hawkeye and Widow bracelets, Biviel t-strap heels

An actual put together outfit! I probably should have worn this the day before when I was training our new hires. OH WELL. I walked to Old Navy Monday night and I couldn’t have done that in these heels.

Check the cute necklace:

It’s a quote from Agent Carter, which ends, “No one else’s opinion matters.” Talk about an excellent mantra. The default charm is her red fedora, but I like Steve’s star – also makes it more wearable with more outfits. Most Agent Carter jewelry I find involves guns (she’s a spy/special agent), so I was thrilled to find a reasonably priced one that doesn’t.

anthropologie top, Sag Harbor skirt, Captain America necklace, Agent Carter necklace, White Cliff flats

Yeah, the shield doesn’t go with the outfit, whatever. My hair doesn’t go with the outfit, either. I went with it anyway.

I’ve been looking for a big achievable project this summer and I decided to do the Couch to 5K. I’ve never been a runner or jogger, largely because of my asthma and allergies, but I’ve been walking so much that I decided it could maybe work. So I picked up some earbuds and fangirl workout tops and did W1D1 on Monday and W1D2 today, on National Runner Day. It’s been going well, but I did realize that jogging and walking in heels use the same muscles, ow.

Redbubble On Your Left (Rogers Running Club) top, Gap yoga pants, running shoes

The top refers to Sam and Steve meeting as runners in Captain America 2: Winter Soldier, heh. When I saw the designs, I had to do it. Makes me smile.

Also making me smile: BINGO. I was up last weekend for my mom’s birthday and he was a doll.

Also smileworthy: my summer organization. All my beautifully designed logs (not by me; two by a colleague and two by an amazing freelancer), counted and organized on our cart and in storage. 20150603-191228.jpg

Yeah, it’s ridiculous to be excited by organization, but whatevs, do not care. T-12 hours!
