19, 21-24 September 2015: Augh, Late

Augh! How has it been two weeks? Last week was super weird, as it was my very dear friend/assistant manager’s last week before moving several hours away, so I was pretty distracted. I hope to get better at keeping current soon.

Dumbledore’s Army tee, Old Navy Flirt capris, Tardis necklace, Tardis bracelet, Converse

September 19th: Hermione Granger’s birthday and the premiere of Doctor Who! It was also Talk Like a Pirate Day, my one chance to wear the pirate tee I got from a TeeFury grab bag, but since I went in to work to help at Hermione’s birthday, I clearly needed to be part of the DA. The party was marvelous, filled with nerdy adults and kids. I helped everyone make pins and finger knit scarves for the House Elves.

And the Doctor Who premiere was solid. I adore Twelve, and his electric guitar riff of Pretty Woman made my night. I ❤ you, Peter Capaldi. Never leave.

Anthropologie cardigan, Old Navy Sweetheart Skinnies, arrow necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Aerosole sandals

It finally cooled down enough to wear my new cardi!!!! Only it didn’t really and I was warm. Oops, jumped the gun. But I do love it very much. So rare to find a fitted cardi that buttons over my chest!

Also, I am so relieved these jeans fit again. They are on the small side of a 4, unlike my capris and my last pair of these, which is very frustrating. I would like to get a better, truer sized pair, but I am also saving money for NYC, so, ugh. But unlike this spring, they fit comfortably again, alleluia. I had been more than a little nervous about cooler weather returning. We’ll see how it goes this winter when I can’t be out jogging anymore.

anthropologie sailor knot dress, H&M cardigan, Avengers charm bracelet, flipflops

These were not the shoes I wore most of the day – I had on my Aerosole wedges seen above, but the STRAPS BROKE OFF THE SIDE. My coworker leant me these to walk home and I dropped my sandals off at the cobbler. They are now fixed, yay!!!

I love the idea of this dress, my very first anthro item, but it’s hard. The top is too big and it’s racerback-y, so I can only really wear it covered up. I love how this came out, though, so I am torn on keeping it or not. Because it can work, clearly, and I love the tie so hard. But it’s just not easy to wear/style.

Anthropologie Novelty Collar tee, Old Navy Flirt capris, H&M cardigan, Avengers charm bracelet, Clarks

Keeping with the anthr theme, basically. And God, I love these shoes.

Gap tank, Old Navy Flirt capris, ANA tie cardigan, Mickey necklace, Hawkeye bracelet, Converse

Aforementioned friend/AM’s going away party for staff was a Just Dance party with candy and Mountain Dew slushies. Clearly, I had to dress to dance. It was a ton of fun. Sniffle. Sigh.

As a going away gift, I sewed together a disappearing nine patch coaster for her new office. And, clearly did not upload the finished product? Hmm, odd. I’ll fix that later. It came out uneven, but cute. And now I know that disappearing ninepatchs really need at least three different fabrics, not two. (It was just a regular nine patch, alternating the dark and light oranges in a checkerboard, which I cut into quarters and turned around to make a more complicated looking pattern.)

I’ve definitely been bitten by the quilting bug again. I bought some fabric for Christmas gifts and sewed my brother a reversible patriotic/flag placemat. Hurrah for cool weather projects!

31 August-3 September 2015: Summer’s Last Hurrah

This week has been incredibly hot and humid, just in time for school to start! Poor kids. (But yay for us.)

anthropologie Flutter Hem tee, Old Navy Flirt capris, vintage key necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Aerosole sandals

Bit of an autumnal outfit, hmm. I’m not really sure what I was thinking, outside of that I wishes it was autumn, ha.

Gap floral top, Old Navy Flirt skirt, Tardis necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, White Cliff flats

The seaming is super weird, but I do like the drape of this top. I picked it up at a swap with another blue floral top and I continually get the two mixed up. I like this one better, seam and all.

Maurice’s top, JCrew button skirt, Mickey necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Aerosole sandals

I need to resew the last button hold to the placket again, ugh. A very easy fix, less than 5 minutes, but my motivation to do tasks outside my routine these days is next to none. I’ve had three items to iron for 2 months. Three items! It’ll take less than ten minutes! And yet.

anthropologie top, Gap camisole, Old Navy Flirt capris, arrow necklace, vintage star brooch, arrow bracelet, Converse

I like this top, but I rarely pull it out. It was probably a mis-buy. Maybe if I played with the top, pinning/sewing it so it didn’t need a cami under it? Hmm.

Because I am a nerd girl, look who came home to me!!!

Peggy and Steve, together again. ❤ ❤ ❤ I super love Peg’s shoes; they were available at BAIT footwear, but a few seasons ago. And the heels are a little high for me. But I still dream.

24-28 August 2015: New Shoes!

For an extra week of summer, it was certainly chilly. Funny how that works out, eh?

Limited striped tee, Old Navy Flirt skirt, Gap boyfriend cardigan, BombDotCom arrow necklace and bracelet, Dansko sandals

Love this top so much. There are other colorways, but this one is just the best.

Gap top, anthropologie skirt, Disney necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Clarks shoes

I haven’t worn this skirt all summer, I don’t think, but I do love it. And these shoes go with it perfectly. Scrounged the outfit last minute when I remembered I was hosting a training and should look professional, ha.

Studio sweater, Sag Harbor skirt, BombDotCom arrow necklace, Agent Carter necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Clarks shoes

I had to go into my sweater closet to get dressed, it was so awesome. And I am madly in love with how this outfit turned out, so fun and retro. I think this sweater will also look great with my red pencil skirt if I ever get brave enough to wear it again.

anthropologie top, Old Navy Flirt capris, Gap boyfriend cardigan, Biviel t-strap heels

Casual but I love wearing heels again. Switched to Keds to walk to the consignment shop on my dinner break, but didn’t find anything…and ended up in Keds the rest of the night, ha. Not my most comfortable pair of shoes, however cute.

Charlotte Russe bow-back top, Old Navy Flirt capris, Gap boyfriend cardigan, Mickey necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, PURPLE CONVERSE

New shoes! New shoes! I love these so much! They are Hollyhock colored, which apparently is not a current color, so I got them off eBay. (Though I was originally sent the wrong size, exchanged them, and eBay returned my money. But I still got my proper size! Need to figure out how to repay them.) Purple and grey is my basic winter wardrobe, and purple is such a neutral for me, and I’m excited to wear them with cute dresses and jeans alike. Also, you know, Hawkeye. ❤

I used this opportunity to say goodbye to my previous pairs of Chucks, all deeply loved, but unwearable. Bye, Chucks. You served me well. I hope I can replace you some day.

This was actually a great mail week. I got the shoes, I got a nerdy subscription box that I will talk about soon, and I got my very first 5k medal, whoo!!!

❤ ❤ ❤ I’m still plugging away at the Rogers Running Club – I’m on W8D2 of couch to 5k and it’s going well. Last week, I actually managed 23 straight minutes of jogging, which blew my mind, and while I haven’t been able to replicate it this week, I did shave 2 minutes off my mile. Exciting. This is my race week for the Cinderella Run Like It’s Midnight challenge, and I’m hoping to complete it on Friday. After that, dunno. There’s a Veterans one in November I’d like to do, though I’m worried it might be too cold for my lungs. I could walk it, though. I could also just do a 5K and buy myself a medal. Options.

18-21 August 2015: Let it Go!

It’s that time of year again – our bi-annual Frozen singalong! And while last week when it happened was blazing hot, Elsa’s worked her magic and we’re back into the 70s. Delightful!

Max Studio tie blouse, JCrew skirt, BP cardigan, Arrow necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Clarks shoes

I am super madly in love with how this turned out. I had a meeting with librarians I’ll be presenting with later this fall, so I wanted to look professional. (And of course, there we were all in our cardigans. STEREOTYPES AHOY.) The peplum of the shirt perfectly masks the waist gaps on this skirt and I love how the colors work together. Love love love.

Snow Queen racerback tank, Old Navy Flirt capris, H&M cardigan, snowflake necklace and bracelet, vintage blue wreath brooch, Clarks shoes

Do you want to build a snowman? I do. I was a little sad I couldn’t rock my snowflake dress, but I required pockets and comfort. I bought this at the parks last year, but find it hard to wear because it’s racerback. Turns out it does work with my sports bras, or just covering up the back. I’m tempted to turn this into a jogging top, though, and get more use out of it. I love the foiling and design, but I did have to pin it to my cardi to make sure nothing showed accidentally.

ALSO, Disney created an app to let you buy things from the park stores and have it shipped. They have WAY more on location than on the Disney Store websites, and I find myself wanting to buy so many many many things. Including my absolute favorite cookie ever, which is alas sold out. 😦 But I’ll keep trying. And I’m sure to get an ornament or two, as well.

Gap top, Old Navy Flirt capris, Mickey necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, BAIT flats

Comfort and ease, all I wanted.

Also, I thought my purple was totally gone, but turns out I’ve just been parting it wrong. And, also, it’s basically silver now. I rather like it.

Elie Tahari top, Old Navy Flirt Capris, Agent Carter necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, hairband, Clarks shoes

I super love this top. I wish all my fitted tops were this comfortable!

10 -14 August 2015: Fangirl

Anne of Green Gables is, bar none, my favorite book. I love a lot of books – A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Betsy-Tacy, everything by Connie Willis – and consider many characters to be my friends, but Anne holds my heart like no other. I remember when I first met her: my friend Ruthie gave me Anne of Green Gables as a birthday present when I was 8. I have multiple copies (including a personalized Shelley of Green Gables and a special hardcover from my senior photos) and every time I move into a new house or apartment, it’s the first book I read there.

I also love the miniseries, and I’m sure most of you have heard or read me talking about meeting Jonathan Crombie when he toured as Man in Chair in Drowsy Chaperone. So you can imagine how pleased I was to see a modern YouTube adaptation popup last year called Green Gables Fables – and to see that it was really quite good. I was excited to have a chance to back the Kickstarter for a season 2 (and was in fact the first to donate, ha!) and my perks have come in.

I am, very clearly, a Kindred Spirit. ❤

Green Gables Fables tee, JCrew button skirt, Doctor Who bracelet, Aerosole sandals

Look at the cute little braids! I love it. I also got a cute postcard signed by the cast. Season 2 (based on book 3, Anne of the Island) starts September 2. I can’t wait.

Frozen/Doctor Who tee, Old Navy Flirt capris, Black Widow bracelet, Clarks shoes

I do love these mashups! It’s odd, though, how they all sort of make me look flat, in a way no other shirt print does.

Tracy Reese anthropologie Mompos Dress, Mickey Mouse necklace, Agent Carter necklace, Captain America bracelet, Clarks shoes

TWIRL! This dress makes me happy, looks perfect with the shoes, and lends itself well to my 1940s character jewelry giving me mental strength. Sometimes you need mental strength wherever you can get it.

Maurice’s top, Old Navy Flirt capris, Tardis necklace, Captain America bracelet, BAIT Iona wedges

I love these shoes so much, and they are so not comfortable. Maybe I needed to size up? It’s such a sad thing. My other BAIT flats are awesome, and I just love these t-traps so much. Boo.

Disney Snow White top, JCrew button skirt, Avengers charm bracelet, Aerosole sandals

And back to fandom. ❤

3-7 August 2015: Exhaustion

Gah, stress and exhaustion. Why do I always persist in thinking August is quiet? It’s not, there’s just fewer staff members around to help! I’ve been crashing pretty much every night after work, basically just reading on my couch until I fall asleep. I think that’s finally starting to ease up a bit – we’ll see what happens when two librarians are out next week, though, ha.

pink top, Old Navy Flirt capris, Disney necklace, Hawkeye bracelet, Keds

You can tell I’m tired because not only can I not remember the brand of the top, it feels like too much work to get up and check. Oy. Sorry. My friend got it for me at a swap, though, and I love it. The crumbcatcher neckline kind of cracks me up, but I like how it looks.

Loft sunkissed tee, Loft skirt, Disney necklace, Tardis bracelet, BAIT flats

I do love this skirt. I love all my skirts, but is this really the only one I keep pulling out this year? If I don’t wear at least my yellow one before fall, it will be a sad season.

Theory dress, Disney necklace, Doctor Who bracelet, Aerosole sandals

I’ve also been avoiding dresses. I love dresses. Why am I avoiding them? So easy to wear.

Gap top, Old Navy Flirt capris, Tardis necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Keds

Another swap top, and I love it. Because I don’t already own enough black tops? Whatevs, it looks good.

I was up at my parents this weekend. Bingy was especially adorable (okay, and often obnoxious) and I love his new thing of sitting at my feet and tipping his head back to give me his toy, hee.

29-31 July 2015: End of Summer As We Know It

END OF SUMMER READING. SUMMER READING IS OVER. Swoon. It was such a great theme, it was so much fun, I am so grateful it’s over.

Modcloth floral dress, Aerosole wedges, Tardis necklace, Avengers charm bracelet

It’s been super freaking hot, hitting or above 90 all week. So, summer sundress. I love the neckline and sleeves, and the back cutout. It’s a little fancy, but makes me super happy.

Woot tshirt, River Canyon skort, Avengers charm bracelet, Bass saddle shoes

Stacy pointed out it’s been awhile since I wore saddle shoes, so I pulled them out. Fangirl fun shirt – Buffy, Xena, Agent Carter, Merida, Scully are my favorites, but they’re all cool ladies. We hosted an open house to show staff what we do in the summer, so I had to go on theme.

I picked up a new lipstick at Sephora last weekend, a sort of berry purple. I’m really loving it, though it’s occasionally kind of gothy.

That’s a better light than some, it feels darker sometimes. It’s going to be great for fall and winter, I think, even if red is still my default.

Junk Food Captain America tee, JCrew denim skirt, Arrow necklace, Hawkeye bracelets, Avengers charm bracelet, sandals

LAST DAY WHOO! Had to go Cap again, of course. The skirt is actually sort of coral, which means Cap’s red shield and my red shoes sort of didn’t go, but it worked well enough, I think. A bunch of us went out for drinks and snacks to celebrate after work, and it was a blast. I spent the weekend catching up on reading and my apartment, which felt really good. I also watched Before We Go, Chris Evans’ directorial debut – it’s super charming and sweet, an almost romance that worked really well. I even got used to the shaky cam pretty easily.

Final SRP shots:

Our Open House had tables showing off our mainstay programs and why we do them, like this:

And our gerbil is rocking his new sweet ride:

Every time I checked on him, he was deeper under the dashboard, until I worried we’d need gerbil jaws of life, ha. But he’s fine.

16, 23, 24 July 2015: Avengers Fun

Being sick sucks. 5 days since my fever and this is the first day I haven’t been totally exhausted by normal life. I’m going to be running from behind for a little bit longer, I guess.

Redbubble She Needed a Hero tshirt, Old Navy Flirt capris, Hawkeye bracelets, Keds, Avengers

I hired Cap and Hawkeye to come teach the kids cool skills – Hawkeye taught them how to use a bow and arrow, obvs, and Cap taught them stunt fighting. The classes were majority girls (aged 3-10), and you have not lived until you have seen tiny girls beating up Captain America. It was marvelous, and they were great with the kids.

We also had Anna and Elsa walking around, but I missed out on a photo with them because I was documenting the Avengers classes. Wish I could post some, they were so good.

Limited striped tshirt, River Canyon skorts, Hawkeye bracelets, Agent Carter necklace, Clarks flats

New shirt, on super mega sale. I adore the colors (lilac and navy) and the fit, yay! And it was like $10. I should have gotten more.

Limited lace dress, vintage star brooch, Captain America bracelet, Anthropologie hairband, Keds

First day back at work, barely made it 5 hours, endless love for my coworker who came back and did my night shift for me. New dress from the same megasale as the above shirt, I super super love it. And yes, I totally Disneybounded as Cap. Can you see it?

Late July 2015: Another Catch Up

I’ve sort of lost track of what I wore when. I think this is actually just this weekend?

Her Universe Doctor Who dress, ANA cardigan, arrow necklace, Avengers charm bracelet, Clarks flats

It’s been hot, which is annoying because I liked my cool summer. But this is a nice dress to wear when it’s hot. I was more than a little punchy this day – I think it was Friday. I was still sort of sleep deprived and weak and had way less of a filter than I normally do, ha. But I made it almost the full day at work!

My friend Liss and I celebrated 20 years of friendship on Saturday, with a trip to the first restaurant we ever spent over $50 in and an afternoon at the mall just like how we spent our high school years! I love the 40s style of this place:

And of course, we hit anthropologie. I tried on a bunch, but the floaty dresses are still a thing and my need to show a waist lest I look like I gained 30 pounds is still a thing. But I did find this fab Sparrow Scalloped Stripes cardigan:

Definite score, and less than $70 with their 20% off sale. I like how it both buttons and defines my waist, which defeats most cardis. I also love the retro-ness of it.

I apologize for my hair.

Also, omg, Michael Kors, NO.

Elastic hemmed jeans?!?!? NO NO NO.

I wanted to see Antman after shopping, but was too tired, so I crashed. Sunday morning, I got myself up and out the door and completed W6D1 of couch to 5k and then kept going to finish my first 5k!!!

It’s a virtual race, where you run on your own time and get a medal mailed to you and I had to do it because it’s the Run You Clever Nerd race, and I love Doctor Who. You get a week to do it – walk, run, jog, break it up into days, whatever. I was sick most of the week, so Sunday was my only chance. And it about did me in. I walked way more than planned, both because my app went weird and because even with my inhaler, I had a hard time breathing, but I did it! And then literally collapsed on the couch and didn’t have the energy to do anything, even read my stack of comic books, woe. Still no Antman. 😦

My next virtual race is Run Like It’s Midnight, with a sparkly Cinderella themed medal, at the end of August. Which is great, because it’ll give me time to finish the final weeks of c25k. My goal is to do it in 45-47 minutes, so we’ll see how it goes. I don’t think I’ll be able to jog much in this heat, so I’m hoping we get some cooler weather again so I can keep going soon!

Mid July 2015: Gah

So, hey, hello. I got waylaid by the virus from hell and have been sick all this week – and I’m pretty sure I was fighting it off last week, thus explaining why I was out of sorts and not bloggy. I genuinely have no idea when I wore these, they’ve just been waiting here for at least a week for a post to be written.

Charlotte Russe bow back shirt, Old Navy Flirt capris, Captain America necklace, Black Widow necklace, sandals

I think this was the day I wanted to wear the shield, because I haven’t in a while, and then in broke in the parking garage when I was walking in? And I was sad. But then I fixed it and it mostly just represented my day.

Woot shirt, Old Navy Flirt Capris, Keds

omg guys, you have no idea how many typos I keep having to fix. My fingers are not used to typing, and they keep missing letters. Like, off by one or just skipping them and it’s super annoying. (10 in that sentence.) (I guess you do know now.) (2 more)

Modcloth bodysuit, Loft skirt, Cap shield necklace, Know Your Value Agent Carter necklace, Optimysticals Avengers charm bracelet, Keds

Quarterly review day. Fandom fun. Yay.

Mom and I went for manicures a few weekends ago! It was lovely! I guess it must have been just two weeks ago, because I’m still wearing this. OPI, forgot the color. It’s cheery.

BINGO BABY. Staring at me all, dude, why are you taking dozens of pictures of me, I just want to enjoy my bones please and thanks.

Bing takes to his bed after I leave. 😦

I found a recipe on Pinterst that made a pretty decent dupe for a Dole Whip from Disney, so I combined it with my friend’s recipe for frozen lemonade pie to make a dole whip pie. It’s a little too sweet – should have pureed pineapple to add and lowered the amount of condensed sweetened milk, so I’ll know better next time. It’s still pretty good, and was good timing since we had a spat of 90+ days in a row.

Also, above it are teas from Adagio, which is my favorite tea blend place. People get to create/sell any blends they like, and there’s a huge fandom part of it. Of those, Agent Carter and Cap are probably my favorite – Cap’s tastes just like apple pie, which is perfect.
